Outdoor STEM Education

At Lone Oaks Farm, we help K-12 teachers reinforce lessons in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through fun and hands-on programs that are led by talented and experienced instructors.

Our STEM programs get kids outside, connected to nature, and engaged with each other - in ways that are difficult or impossible to accomplish in the classroom.

Our Program

Our program covers the fields of biology, ecology, chemistry, math, geometry, robotics, engineering, physics, and so much more.

Through engaging, hands-on activities, each child’s imagination, creativity, and passion for learning will grow and be nurtured.

Created by the University of Tennessee in partnership with area public and private schools, our STEM programs meet strong academic goals.

A World-Class Destination

Lone Oaks Farm is a world-class destination for K-12 teachers and students interested in STEM. Owned and operated by the University of Tennessee, Lone Oaks Farm offers a variety of programs designed to teach STEM in ways that are fun, challenging, and experiential.

Located near Memphis and Jackson, in Middleton, TN, and encompassing 1,200 acres with a diverse mixture of pasture, woodlands, trails and sixteen lakes, Lone Oaks Farm epitomizes Tennessee’s natural beauty.

This destination isn’t only a showplace, but a working farm – a place where hay, livestock, chickens, eggs, timber, wildlife, and fruit and vegetable crops are produced in abundance. We use all those things and more to teach kids about STEM in new and exciting ways.

Our students were immersed in nature as they learned about producers, consumers, decomposers, & other biotic and abiotic elements in aquatic and forest ecosystems. Our students absolutely LOVED the experience! Thank you for providing our students with a real-world encounter with things we are learning about in the classroom. Our studies will now become alive and relevant.

I had so much fun at Lone Oaks Farm. I liked it because they talked about nature and I love to learn about nature. The workers there were really fun and funny like Mr. Ron, Mrs. Victoria, and Mrs. Krystal. I took so many pictures on my phone and all of them were good. Mr. Ron let me hold their snake I was so scared but I got over my fear and did it.

My favorite thing at Lone Oaks was feeling and playing with the animal skins. I would have loved to have more time to dig for bugs and or insects. Mr. Ron, Mrs. Victoria, and Mrs. Krystal taught us a lot of things. I would do almost anything to go again. I definitely recommend it for all other classes.
